Dunes Harbor Family Campground Review
Maybe you want to adventure, but your not that hard core. You know the kind who want to stay in a remote forest, backpacking, with no bathrooms or electricity? While that can be fun and challenging, it’s not for everyone. I love camping, but I still like to have nice amenities even if I’m staying in a tent. Enter Dunes Harbor Family Campground! They are the newest campground in Silver Lake, MI and because of that have some of the best amenities around. New bathhouses, lots that accommodate just about anything you can haul or drive, an onsite ice cream shop, quiet lake surrounding the campground for fishing or paddle sports, and an awesome, feature packed pool! Its a fantastic place for families or others looking to relax and get away from the everyday chaos, without sacrificing some of the everyday luxuries. Some of my favorite features are the grassy sites (no state park dirt), the awesome staff, and the clean environment.
As far as adventuring goes, there is so much fun to be had surrounding this campground! You’re less than 1 mile from Silver Lake’s famous sand dunes. Go explore them on foot or rent a jeep or buggy to go ripping over the sand dunes like many others in Michigan love to do! Don’t forget to pack your bicycles when you go camping! For a fun jaunt, take the 11 mile round trip to the Little Sable Lighthouse or head into Hart and join up to the Hart-Montague Trail for a longer adventure (be sure to stop at Country Dairy for some of the best ice cream and chocolate milk around). If you are looking for an awesome day hike, head north to the Nordhouse Dunes for some spectacular views and trails. Want to do a bit of shopping? Downtown Pentwater is one of the best downtown areas around! They also have a fantastic beach for a day on the Lake.
There are also some great eateries in the area. For THE best tacos, head to La Probadita in Hart (cash and checks only), or if you just want a drink and a burger, Big Hart Brewery will do the trick. Speaking of burgers, you have to check out The Bear in Pentwater! Their Bear Burger is legendary in the area, just be sure to bring some friends to help you eat it. A local favorite is The Golden Eatery. Best breakfast deal in town at $4 a plate before 9am.
Adventure looks different for everyone. For me, I’ll take a few of the comforts of everyday living. Whether in a tent, RV, or an onsite cabin, you can’t go wrong at Dunes Harbor. You’ll make memories that will last generations and may just find your new favorite place to vacation every summer.
